Solid series SSD drives are available in capacities of 30GB, 60GB, 120GB, and 250GB and deliver up to an incredible 155 MB/s and 90 MB/s read/write speeds and seek times of less than 0.35ms, making the Solid series up to 10x as fast on a seek-time basis than the best performing 2.5” HDDs on the market, all while consuming 50% less power. Current generation SSD drives are designed and optimized for the latest mobile platforms and are not recommended for use in laptops models purchased prior to 2007.
The drives feature a durable yet lightweight alloy housing, and because OCZ SSDs have no moving parts, the drives are not prone to damage from common mishandling. Designed for ultimate reliability, these SSDs have an excellent 1.5 million hour mean time before failure (MTBF) ensuring peace of mind over the long term. All Solid Series SSD drives come backed a two year warranty and OCZ’s legendary service and support.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Solid State Drives DO NOT require defragmentation. It may decrease the lifespan of the drive.

Expensive, but worth it

Memory disks are the future. They have the potential to completely replace mechanical hard drives -- in portable platforms at least. This one is not the most recent spec, but it works well. Easy to install in my Apple MacBook: make the SSD a clone of the old disk; remove battery, earth yourself, unplug old disk, plug this one in; and off you go. Boot and startup time reduced by half. Applications start almost instantaneously. Sustained write is no quicker, and may be a little slower than the best HDDs, but the overall experience is definitely "snappier". The cost is a little hard to justify, particularly on lower end hardware. However, for me, knowing that, even on the train, my laptop is virtually immune to shock damage makes it worth it. Recommended.
